Euler Buckling of Thin - Walled Composite Columns •

چکیده
Pultruded composite structural members with open or closed thin-walled sections are being extensively used as columns for structural applications l1Jhere buckling is the main consideration in the design. In this paper, global buckling is investigated and critical loads are experimentally determined for various fiber reinforced composite I-beams of long column length. Southwell's method is used to determine the critical buckling load about strong and weak axes. The experimentally determined buckling load is compared with theoretical predictions. A number of observations about testing methodology and data reduction techniques are presented.

Buckling Behaviour of Thin-walled Composite Columns Using Generalised Beam Theory
An extension of the existing Generalised Beam Theory (GBT), intended to make it applicable to orthotropic thin-walled structural members, is presented and discussed. The derived equations are, then, used to analyse the local and global buckling behaviour of FRP pultruded columns and the GBT results are validated through a comparison with numerical ones, obtained by finite strip analyses. Finall...
متن کاملLocal, Distortional, and Euler Buckling of Thin-Walled Columns
Open cross-section, thin-walled, cold-formed steel columns have at least three competing buckling modes: local, distortional, and Euler ~i.e., flexural or flexural-torsional! buckling. Closed-form prediction of the buckling stress in the local mode, including interaction of the connected elements, and the distortional mode, including consideration of the elastic and geometric stiffness at the w...
متن کاملمعرفی ستون جدار نازک توخالی ساخته شده از ورقهای فولادی موجدار و بررسی رفتار لرزهای آن
Thin-walled hollow steel columns, either circular or box shaped, are commonly used as piers in bridges. Recent earthquakes, e.g. Hyogoken-Nanbu or Kobe 1995, on the other hand have shown that these columns are vulnerable to damage when subjected to earthquake loading. This paper presents a new innovative thin-walled hollow steel column fabricated of corrugated plates, “thin-walled steel columns...
متن کاملPost-buckling and First-ply Failure of Thin-walled Frames and Columns Made of Composite Materials
First-ply failure (FPF) of composite thin-walled columns and frames is investigated in the buckled structure. Elastic behavior is assumed during the pre-buckling and buckling states, and along part of the post-buckling equilibrium path. The Tsai-Hill criterion is employed to identify failure of one ply at one specific location. The technique of analysis is based on evaluation of the post-buckli...
متن کاملInelastic Behavior of Concrete-filled Thin-walled Steel Tubular Columns Subjected to Local Buckling
This paper is concerned with the inelastic behavior of axially loaded concrete-filled thin-walled steel tubular columns subjected to local buckling. A nonlinear fiber element analysis program accounting for local buckling effects is developed for predicting the ultimate strength and ductility of concrete-filled thin-walled steel tubular columns. The effects of local buckling are taken into cons...
